Long-distance move from Southbury, CT to Chester, VA

Big yikes and a sad night

It started with the movers putting all our smaller boxes into bigger boxes, at an (unbeknownst to us) $35/pop, which somehow lead to a move that cost triple our estimate. After learning on move-in day that our truck has been sitting in storage for 2 days and that they will not be delivering on the agreed upon move in date, my husband and I are now sleeping on the wood floor of our home after a day of driving 500 miles. Had it been communicated that there would be a remote possibility that our things wouldn't arrive on our move-in date, we would have taken measures to pack up our blow up mattress in our car. It became clear that the departments in this business do not talk with each other ensure the facilitation of a smooth transaction. We were told not only that they have up to 21 days to make this shipment, but that since we didn't get a phone call 24 hours prior, that we should have "assumed" it would not be arriving on our move in date. So now, my husband and my first night in our new home and new state will forever be remembered like this - left on the floor and in the dark by a company you've entrusted all your worldly possessions with. All Points Moving needs to employ a better business model that includes full transparency and interdepartmental cooperation - and more touch points with their customers.

Allpoints Movers is Fabulous.

ALLPOINTS IS FABULOUS. Bill Curtis was very patient, understanding, and flexible when the moving date became a moving target (the move was for a elderly hoarder who didn't want to move). The movers, Jose, Mel, and Joe, were greeted with an apartment with almost all of the floor filled with boxes and no path to the furniture. We unexpectedly had to make two trips: the first to a storage unit and Good Will and the second to the new home. They were diligent in their efforts and kind and understanding and patient in their attitudes. Hard to believe under the circumstances, but the move was flawless with everything ending up where it was supposed to be. The move did take longer than the estimate, but the estimate was based on what I told Bill when I didn't know about the hoarding (and was the same time as all other movers I contacted). I give Allpoints my highest recommendation, and I will use no one but Allpoints for all future moves.

Long-distance move from Queensbury, NY to Thomasville, NC

Move from New York to North Carolina

First of all, my things were brought in a week. I thought that was quick. This company dropped my things off. They contacted me day before and an hour before they came. Great. Two guys came in a truck and moved everything to where I wanted. Put my bed and TV together. Gave them cold water and cookies while they worked. When they were getting ready to leave, one said (very broken English), we now need tip. Honestly, I forgot. Went inside and got them $15 each. The man said this is not enough. He said they put bed and TV together. I said No. That is their service. I paid over $3000 for this. They left. Did not take half the garbage they were Supposed To. When do people demand a tip and then say that is not enough. If they work for tips and that is not enough then maybe the company needs to pay them more. Good experience until the end.

Long-distance move from Pennsylvania to Washington DC

Move was OK but wound up costing more than was quoted.

I booked this company through Mover Nation.  I was moving for grauate school and really needed my stuff to arrive quickly becaue my apartment wouldn't be ready until a week before orientation and then after that I wouldn't be able to sit around waiting for my stuff.  All Points was able to get everything there quickly, I was only without furniture for 3 days which wasn't bad at all and way shorter than the 2-3 weeks I'd be waiting had I used a different company (and paid more).     But the 2 stars come from things that I didn't know about until it was too late.  When I booked I was told that as long as I didn't alter the list I originally gave (no extra boxes, furniture etc.) that my price would be locked in.  I wound up having a few less boxes than I inititally thought I would so it shouldn't have been a problem.  But then once the movers showed up and all my stuff was in the truck they told me that it was taking up more space than they had allotted for so they would need to charge me about $400 more than what I was origianlly quoted.  This was the day before I was supposed to move in and they already had all my stuff in the truck, what was I supposed to say?  But they only take cash or certified check, my move was on a Sunday and of course my bank was closed and I rarely have $50 cash in my wallet let alone $400.  Luckily they took one of the checks I already had and just said they would collect the difference at delivery.  Then they asked about tipping, they said it was customary to tip 10% at pickup and 5% at delivery.  Once again, I was told this after all my stuff was in the truck and not wanting anything to go "missing" it felt like I had no choice but to write a check for a $200 tip (for that personal check was fine).  I was initially expecting to pay $1300 for my move, when all was said and done it wound up being about $2100 (increase mover fee and tipping at pickup and delivery).   I also had issues with things being broken.  The two back legs on my dresser snapped off at pickup.  It was nothing a little wood glue didn't fix but still annoying.  When my things were delivered almost all of my boxes were crushed or caved in.  Luckily I decided to bring my dishes down in the car with me and the only thing that was broken was one glass jar candle, not the end of the world but still, if my dishes had been in there I probably would've had to go out and buy new ones since it looks like most of my stuff was just thrown around.   The movers themselves were very nice and got things in and out very quickly and my stuff did arrive in time for me to start orientation without having to worry about where my furniture was.  Still, the increase in cost, and how I didn't know until I couldn't do anything about it, is enough to make me think twice before using this company again.  I'll most likely be moving after I finish school and next time I'll be going with a better known, national moving company and just be prepared to spend a week or two on an air mattress.  .

Long-distance move from New Jersey to Illinois

Theft, broken items & excuses.

After reading these reviews, I feel much better about the horrendous experience I've had with them.   Tom, the dispatcher or head cheese in charge, was wonderful with the coordination of the move, but it was because I was persistent.   I learned from my friend that the team who showed up to my home in NJ came straight from a night of drinking.  In fact, a plastic bag containing 5 unopened beer bottles were left in my fridge, on top of some other stuff I had. My place had been an absolute mess - a vase with flowers that had been sitting on the window sill is missing & the flowers scattered across the floor. When I unpacked my boxes, I had the following issues: --wardrobe boxes weren't properly used so everything in my closet got wrinkled after 6 days of being in a truck --items were broken --a trinket that contained a $2 bill stuffed well into it had the cash missing by the time it arrived (and there was no way in hell it would have fallen out).   When I returned to NJ after having been away for 2 weeks for working, I found that the following items were missing & had not been packed with the move: --a set of silverware that had been a wedding gift --6 large jugs of laundry detergent in spite of the fact that I was told the movers don't move cleaning supplies --a kitchen drawer that had been picked through & among the missing items were screwdriver & measuring tape --out of 2 sets of measuring cups, the stainless steel ones were missing   And this is only a partial list. In fact, when I looked in my bathroom, they had helped themselves by opening a previously unopened box of dryer sheets.   Unfortunately, every time I've tried to get any form of accountability for this horrendous behavior, I only got excuses.   Plus, the prices kept rising every time I turned around.   What prompted me to write this review is the conversation I had with Tom to report the missing items.   He was so insensitive, had horrible listening skills & absolutely no empathy skills: --the conversation started off with him saying, "Why did you wait so long to report these missing items?" --when I tried to explain my work situation, he said, "well, you signed the form saying that you received all your items" --when I questioned him on the fact that the inventory was hard to read & that I was missing enough individual items to form a box or 2, his excuse was that the itemized bill only contained a general description of the box & not the actual content listing --when I mentioned that upon my return, even cleaning supplies & the 6 jugs of laundry detergent were missing, his excuse was that they do not move cleaning supplies, which I already knew   Finally, he told me to file a claim, but I'd been so frustrated by then that I let out a blood-curdling, banshee-like scream (which is incredibly rare for me).   Then he had the nerve to scream, "Don't raise your voice at me or else I'm going to hang up the phone."   At which point **I** hung up the phone.   Besides, as my frustration was rising, my voice was getting progressively louder & he should have had the sense to stop my frustration before it got to the point of the banshee-like scream.   The only silver lining in all this is that all of my missing items can be replaced.   I think the only good service I received was from the delivery team, who had been proactive in contacting me to schedule delivery, worked around my schedule & the availability of the freight elevators and assembled my furniture in record time.   My regret was that the move costed so much that I had no money left to give this delivery team the tip they truly deserved.

Reimbursement for Damages.

They moved items for us in October; we are STILL working to obtain our settlement for damaged items nine months later. Each time I called to follow up I was told the owner needed to "check with the claims department", "check with accounts payable", etc. In July we have yet to receive our reimbursement for the damages. The delivery men were nice and responsible, but this is appalling. When I spoke with the owner today, his response to my dissatisfaction was, "We have nine months to take care of it by law." Not a customer-oriented business! I do not recommend this company to anyone!

Long-distance move from Pennsylvania to Illinois

All Points Moving NJ.

My husband and I have moved 7 times.  This was by far the worst move we have had.  Customer service was awful, broken items and things were just thrown in boxes.  Never have we seen such a mess.  The worst experience we have ever had in moving..DO NOT USE THIS COMANY.  They arrived a day early because they scheduled incorrectly.  Thiere was no communication what so ever on their part.  From the minute they arrived at our doorstep it was complete chaos.  We had 3 people packing in each room.  The main mover had the kitchen to move.  He used NO DISHPAKS!!  Fine China and platters are broken.  The other mover thru things from desks into bottoms of boxes. We have 31 unmarked boxes and have no idea what's in them.  They had the gull to charge us another $500.00 for additional boxes.  What a joke.  They were to move a brand new Harley Davidson  and had no ramp to move it on..They physically lifted it onto to the truck.  They never told us our things would be in a 30 ft truck only to be held overnight and manhandled onto a 18 wheeler.  They were also a day late getting to Illinois, which caused another huge mess.  The car transport was even worse.  Showed up wanting more money than quoted.  On a scale of 1-10 this was minus zero.  One huge mess my husband and I have..

Swich and bait.

They said it would cost 1,500 and asked for 561 upfront. when the truck got there they told me thart the 561 was for the Booking company which no one told me about  then I was told that I need to come up with $500 for them to pick it. them they said that my 1,500 move now was going to cost 3,500. I would till you stay away from this compamy. The guy that worked from them were good to deal with just it's to bad the company is not up front so you have the money. I will neave use this company ever again.

Long-distance move from New Jersey to Texas

Horrible company.

Absolutely awful company. Was told one thing as far as price went, and day of the move it all was different. They claimed to be different than all the other companies. Never been treated more rudely than I was by [NAME EDIT] the "supervisor". I should have known better when I spoke to a different person every time I called. The binding estimate I was given wasn't worth the paper it was printed on because I was immediately charged for extra things before anything even went on the truck, even though those items I was being charged extra for were on the inventory sheet. The truck finally left after I asked multiple times for them to go. [NAME EDIT] refused to return my deposit for the non service I received. I will be disputing that charge with my credit card. I received over a dozen phone calls after I had the truck leave, not to mention they came back an hour later to take pictures of my personal vehicle. Horrible business.

NY to Florida.

First we didn't know that they would be the movers until about 2 days before they came. Then we were told that the company we had originally hired was not to be contacted because they just are (as we learned later) a broker for the vets, which Purple Hearts movers never disclosed to us. The guy in charge came and demanded a much larger payment than we had be told, granted we had slightly underestimated how much stuff we had. The movers were polite but not communicative and they charged us for each furniture blanket and all the masking tape they used. We were not told about this by anyone and boy did they use lots of tape. We had been told that we should tip each worker 10% of the total in cash, we didn't have that kind of cash on hand and considering the cost of the move ended up costing us in excess of $12,000.00 that could have ended up breaking us financially. We were told our things would be delivered the following Tuesday morning. Well, they arrived at our apt with an 18 wheeler on Monday night about 6PM and didn't finish unloading until about 11PM. There were only 2 workers and they demanded payment before unloading. One of the workers was very efficient and quick the other just kept throwing things around and we actually saw the 2nd guy drop a carton marked glassware/fragile right off the truck. He never made a note of it and never apologized which I found rude.
All in all a very stressful move that could have gone much easier if all involved were open and honest. So, warning, know your movers, make sure they give a written estimate ahead of time and keep notes for yourself or photos if warranted.
